PUNJAB GOVT. TO ADD 50M DOLLARS, TRANSPARENT USE OF FUNDS STRESSED
LAHORE, NOV. 13: As many as Asian Development Bank to fund 300 M dollars for the up-gradation of infrastructure and present civic facilities in 4 cities of Punjab province while Punjab Government would add 50M dollars in the same program. Senior Minister Punjab Abdul Aleem Khan has directed the Local Government & Community Development Department to ensure transparent use of funds and observe all rules and regulations in this regard. Under this program cities of Sargodha, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur would be benefitted and it is the 2nd phase of Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement Investment Program while in the first phase civic facilities in Sialkot and Sahiwal cities were upgraded. Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan said that in the past government such funds were plundered with bogus companies but now the government would ensure that each and every penny is being utilized meticulously. He said that sustainable steps should be taken for the uplift of civic facilities and it should also be ensured that development work is being done through routine wise so that there should be no wastage. Abdul Aleem Khan said that international donor agencies are now relying on the present leadership of Pakistan because Prime Minister Imran Khan has clean and crystal clear vision of developing the country in a befitting manner.
It is mentionable that Punjab Cities Improvement Investment Program includes provision of water supply, sewerage facilities, solid waste management and other civic amenities on which work would be undertaken in the above mentioned 4 cities. A workshop also took place under the same program in which Urban Development Specialist Gordon Smith, Project Manager Cities Development Initiative Asia Mr. BrianCapati, Project Director Mr. Romain Vivant, Team Leader Urban Resilience Specialist Asim Manji, Deputy Team Leader, urban Development Specialist Nadeem Khursheed, Project Coordinator Mujeeb ur Rehman Khan and Capacity Development Specialist Dina Khan addressed this workshop and highlighted the aims and objectives of this program in 4 cities of Punjab. Program Director Qaiser Saleem lauded the efforts of Asian Development Bank for the improvement of infrastructure. He told that steps have already been started in Sargodha and other cities of South Punjab under Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement Investment Program while workshops will also take place on Nov. 15 & 16 at Bahawalpur.
