RURAL WATER SUPPLY SCHEMES TO BE COMPLETED ON PRIORITY BASIS-ABDUL ALEEM KHAN

LAHORE, NOV. 30: Senior Minister Punjab Abdul Aleem Khan has said that clean drinking water is equally important for the rural areas of Punjab and hundred per cent provision of drainage, solid waste management and clean water would be ensured for all the villages of Punjab. He observed this while talking to the World Bank Representative in Pakistan who called on him here in his office today. Senior Minister gave the go ahead on the project of Rs.80 billion for 1100 villages in which special schemes would be started for water supply, drainage and solid waste management and for which World Bank would also provide technical assistance, expertise and help to get projects ready in different districts of Punjab. He was given detailed presentation on the provision of water from canals and other resources, its preservation and distribution network which would be completed with low cost schemes in most modern ways. 
Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan observed that 25914 villages of Punjab would be screened out in phase wise program and Punjab Government would undertake short and long term planning for providing them the basic needed facilities. He said that for water supply, sewerage and waste management schemes South Punjab areas would be given priority so that residents of those areas could be saved from the diseases and can avail healthy atmosphere as well. Abdul Aleem Khan said that unfortunately the past government looted the national exchequer in the name of clean water and billions of rupees were wasted rather than providing this facility to the masses. Senior Minister said that each and every penny to be given by World Bank would be spent in true sense which would directly help in bringing change in the rural areas of the province. He expressed deep interest in the plan devised in this regard and said that in minimum possible time further process should be completed so that practical work could be started.
World Bank’s Representative in Pakistan Farhan Sami gave the detailed briefing to the Senior Minister Punjab Abdul Aleem Khan and said that in the first phase 80 billion rupees would be given on zero interest rate while after that heavy funds can also be provided. In the meeting it was decided that Punjab Government would hold the next session after one week so that details could be finalized in this regard and water supply, sanitation and solid waste management facilities could be started in the rural areas of Punjab.
