PROJECT TO LAUNCH ON SUSTAINABLE BASIS WITH COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION-SR. MINISTER

LAHORE, JAN. 19:  Senior Minister Punjab Abdul Aleem Khan has approved the launching of Waste Management and Rural Sanitation Project initially for 72 villages of Punjab and two villages will be selected from each district. This was decided in a high level meeting presided over by Senior Minister Punjab Abdul Aleem Khan here at 90 The Mall in which Secretary Local Bodies Punjab, Director General and other high ranking officers were present. Abdul Aleem Khan said that this project would be sustainable basis for which community participation would also be ensured. He said that nominal service charges would also applicable and on the basis of population units will be formed. Senior Minister approved 3 members rickshaw team for each village to collect garbage from there. He also approved to extend this program to all the villages of Punjab in next phase. Senior Minister said that unfortunately there was no such system for the sanitation of rural areas in Punjab and people were wasting their garbage on self help basis. He added that improper arrangements resulted in pollution and bad impacts on vegetables and crops. Abdul Aleem Khan said that as per directions of Prime Minister comprehensive rural sanitation program has been evolved for which practical steps would be taken shortly. Senior Minister directed that for the sanitary workers there should be no salary less than 20 thousand for each one. He also directed to ensure on the spot monitoring for this sanitation program in the villages of Punjab. He directed that local members of parliament should also be taken in to the loop to make this program more and more beneficial and their suggestions should be included in this regard. Senior Minister said that gradually we have to move towards waste to energy project to process garbage for useable items and ensure healthy environment in the province. Abdul Aleem Khan announced to visit different districts to inspect on the ground situation in villages for Rural Sanitation Program.
Senior Minister Punjab Abdul Aleem Khan was briefed by Secretary Local Bodies Capt.(r) Saif Anjum about the Rural Sanitation Program. He told that initial work has been has been completed and soon practical steps would be taken as per directions of the Senior Minister. Director General Local Bodies Mahmood Javed Bhatti and other officers also briefed on this program.
